Hi Friend!
I'm writing today to say thank you so much for sticking with me through my first year as an online video content creator! I made 28 long form videos last year. It was a lot of work but meaningful and good for me developmentally.
Creating online videos is a vulnerable thing to do. You have to put yourself out there and it's a little embarrassing and intimidating, to be honest. You never do as well as you would like.
But you were there for me and I really want to thank you for that!
Your comments meant a lot and kept me going. It was the same year that we were in Portland for about nine months helping take care of young Pax (who is doing great now, Praise the Lord!).
Making Grounded videos gave me a public ministry outlet in a season when Sherry and I needed to stay put physically. That’s the amazing part of the new digital world—you can reach people from anywhere.
Last Year’s Theme
For 2024 I felt drawn to the idea of “becoming grounded when the world is shaking”. Our world was shaken by the death of my dad and the health problems Pax was suffering. It seemed like the whole world was in a similar state. Everything you could trust before was now flying apart.
2025 The Bubble World
Check the chart above to see who most people are spending their time with. Yep! Themselves, all alone. It’s the most in recorded history.
It’s becoming far too easy to draw away from people into a comfortable lone bubble world. We’re disappearing into our La-Z-boys, cellphones, and Netflix for most of the day. In every age group people around the world are withdrawing from others.
You can spend a lot of energy trying to become stronger and better in so many ways, but what most of us believers truly need is more focus on becoming intentionally useful in the lives of others.
I think that’s what being “salt and light” is all about. So, I want to shift my theme in 2025 to focus more on becoming useful to God and others. Anyway, becoming a healer in the world, in my experience, is the fastest and most complete way to become healed yourself.
Let’s Build a Community!
Sherry and I want to use every day this year to improve our own usefulness. We hope you'll join us. This year, we’re also going to put our best energy into growing this publication into a vibrant community and we hope you’ll invest some time in it as well to make it more valuable for everyone.
We can’t all be together physically, but we believe it is possible to become an authentic community even in this digital space. Please invite like-minded friends to join us.
Usefully yours,
Chuck and Sherry
Thanks for the votes about the name change. Wow! Glad this last election wasn't that close. I'll wait two weeks and then make up my mind. There's good arguments on both sides.
Spend a little time with this chart thinking about all it reveals. Basically you have a 10 year window where you spend time with your children, then watch how fast it drops off. Your time with friends are in your adolescence. There's just a soaring isolation that last for life. This chart is about America. I'm not sure how well it reflects trends around the world in each category.
